Thought to be the precursor of the martini, the Martinez has been around since the mid 1800’s. It is said to be a twist on the original Vermouth Cocktail (which was vermouth, lemon, bitters and maraschino liqueur). This drink is a classic that I love during the winter months.
Ingredients
Equipment: Glass for stirring, cocktail spoon, strainer, and martini glass or nick and nora glass
1 ½ oz gin (look for a dry style)
1 oz sweet vermouth (Carpano’s “Antica Formula is my favorite)
¼ oz Luxardo maraschino liqueur
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
twist of lemon for garnish
Instructions
Combine gin, sweet vermouth, Luxardo and bitters in glass with ice and stir for 15-20 seconds. Strain into glass and garnish with twist of lemon.
